1989 - Cornell Faculty Pioneered Financial Engineering as an Academic Discipline by holding the first academic meeting in Financial Engineering at Cornell.
Together, Professors Robert Jarrow and David Heath, advised students for several years, notably publishing Heath Jarrow Morton Model in 1992, before the Master-level Financial Engineering Program was formalized.
1995 - Financial Engineering as a degree is formalized within School of Operations Research and Information Engineering.
2005 - Wall Street Campus is established at 55 Broad Street in New York City.
2006 - Master of Engineering FE concentration is expanded to 3 semesters to include summer internship.
2007- Cornell Financial Engineering Manhattan (CFEM) is established to serve as a bridge between the Ithaca campus and Wall Street.

- Highly selective 3-semester full time program of 35-40 students
- Third semester is taught exclusively at CFEM
- Interdisciplinary Curriculum between ORIE, Johnson Graduate School of Management, and departments of Economics and Applied Economics and Management

[edit] Cornell Financial Engineering Manhattan (CFEM)
CFEM programs complement the theoretical education of our Master of Engineering students by providing practical
understanding of the financial markets. While students spend their first two semesters in Ithaca, learning the theoretical foundation of mathematical financial face to face with the world-renowned faculty, at CFEM, during their last semester all curriculums is practitioner-taught. Aside from emphasizing the applications of the theory learned in Ithaca, CFEM also provides students with career development opportunities.

Our students are regularly recruited by major investment banks, hedge funds, and quantitative portfolio managers. Some graduates choose to start their own and trading platforms or join small hedge funds, while others build careers as traders, sales people, structures, or modelers at big institutions with global outreach.
