Dear Students of Baruch's MFE Program:
As ex-Beatle, George Harrison, once wrote, "All things must pass."
That too applies to the QuantNetwork leadership. Vladimir, Yiping,
John, and I will graduate at the end of this semester; Gia will resign
her position at the end of the semester due to a greater workload next
semester. Therefore, all the QuantNetwork officer positions
(President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Director) will be
open for new leadership.
Being an officer of QuantNetwork is a very rewarding experience. It
helps build certain soft skills that one does not learn in class;
these soft skills include promotional, organizational, leadership,
public speaking, etc. Officers interact with many interesting people
and groups, such as the Graduate Student Assembly, QuantNetwork
speakers, and sometimes, even, officers of other clubs. Please note
that although the experience is very rewarding, a great deal of
dedication and commitment is required.
If you are interested in an officer position, please let me know by
the end of October. Just send me a private message. If you would
like to know more about a position, ask any officer or our faculty
advisor, Professor Stefanica. If there are many individuals who are
interested in these positions, we will hold elections. Note that the
keys positions are the President and the Treasurer; Baruch College
stipulates that a club must have those two positions filled in order
for it to function.
Take the plunge; you will find it to be the thrill of a lifetime.
Jimmy
Jimmy,
It's sad that we no longer have you guys leading the club. That's a really big loss. It's hard to find another Jimmy (passion about history included).
Can I nominate other students that I think may be interested? (convincing them to run is another story given the lack of time)
I'm willing to play a small, supporting role in the club but ultimately we need more involvment from other students.
It's also a good idea if you can specify the role and responsibility of each officer. How many times per semester each person have to go to a meeting? What are the papers to be submitted by the club?
Having a clear idea of the time commitment will help interested students to see whether s/he can commit to such a thrill of a lifetime

Don't nominate them; we don't want them to feel uncomfortable. Prof Stefanica is very good in nominations. I'm glad that you are willing to play a small, supporting role; make sure that you are NOT overburdened: the quantnet.org site is alot of work.

The roles and responsibilities are not structured; the most structured role is the Treasurer. That is the money person.
Here is a list of responsibilities:
GSA
------------
1) representative to the Graduate Student Assembly; see if there is anything that would be beneficial to the MFE program; there's free dinner there in the GSA meetings
2) request money from GSA; manage the club budget; we just got one
the talks
-------------
1) find and invite speakers; Professor Stefanica helps as well
2) prepare the QuantNetwork schedule of events
3) promote the talks throughout campus
4) setup the room
social
--------------
1) throw at least one social/party
Jimmy,
I just want to make it clear that you guys will serve until the end of this semester right ? That means we are looking for new people to run the club next semester, not this one.
Don't nominate them; we don't want them to feel uncomfortable. Prof Stefanica is very good in nominations.
So it's best that any interested person should contact you directly regarding the positions.
make sure that you are NOT overburdened: the quantnet.org site is alot of work.
Precisely the reason it's best I play a supporting role. We have many enthusiastic members that can take the lead.

Yes, we will remain in office until the end of December, 2006. We are looking for people to serve as officers for 2007.

Hello everyone. Please allow me to announce my decision of running for the President of Quant Network.
Meanwhile, I’d like to highlight a few things that you might want to know, because I would be serving YOU.
Reasons for running:
1. It has been a year since I last served a student body or an organization. I have learned so much from the people I served and those whom I served with. I do miss that kind of rewarding and challenging experience; and I want to do it again.
2. Our program is rising and making its way up to the top. And this goal of excellence can only be achieved by aggregated efforts from all of us. Personally, I would like to contribute my share in the best way that I know how.
3. With all my respect for all the gentlemen in the quant field, I would like to do my part to promote women’s interests in the field of Financial Engineering. I would also like to tell women that quant guys are also fun, humorous, friendly, and thoughtful.
4. By returning my service back to our community, I hope to deepen my appreciation for the services from other people such as Director Stefanica, Jimmy Chin, and Andy Nguyen.
Usually, when people run for presidency, they give out tons promises. But let’s digress from that fashion. Although I do want to make it known that your voice will be heard and your opinions will be voiced.
I sincerely hope to have your support.
Some one once said, “You can do what I can’t do. I can do what you can’t do. Together we can do something beautiful…”
I sincerely hope to have your support.
You have my 100% support, Bridgett. I'm always available whenever you need help. Thanks for stepping up and take "the plunge; you will find it to be the thrill of a lifetime" from the words of Jimmy, our President.
I hope you find this a very rewarding experience working with and for your fellow students. Together, we can make something really special.
I look forward to seeing others stepping up to join Bridgett and make up a Dream Team for all of us in our MFE program.

You have my "unwavering" support, Bridgett.

Thank you, Bridgett. If you have no other contenders, then you will be the president-elect on Nov 1. Your first priority is to fill the remaining officer positions. The key position to fill is the treasurer's spot. Make the officers a combination of part-timers and full-timers.
And my priority is transfer my knowledge to the president-elect.

Bridgett for PRESIDENT!!! :smt038 :smt038
You have my support!!!
Alain, if you ever consider running for one of the Quantnet positions, you'll have my total support too.
If someone besides Bridgett likes to run for President, I'd love to hear from them too. Competition is always good for customers (aka us students).
Here are still open positions (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Director). I know there are lot of interests among ourselves so don't be shy. Just speak up. We can't do this alone. Whatever position you end up with, you know that you always have Andy's 24/7 support (technically :smt024 , emotionally :smt056 or just cheerleading :smt038 )
How's that for encouragement ?

I can't for a variety of reasons. I will help on anything... but it has hard for me to take a responsability like that.
