Help is needed around here...:smt100
Let's start with the first and very important thing: Quantnet logo
http://img328.imageshack.us/img328/2397/qnlogods0.gif
For the longest time, this has been the logo for our Quantnet website and Club. This was designed by Phat Loc, a graduate of our program IIRC.
Now it's time to do something about it so I'd like to solicit ideas from everyone...
Prof. Stefanica seems to love the old logo, or at least the idea of greek letters in it.

Just to confirm: I do like the old logo, indeed.

I like the old one too.

bump.

IMO the logo should be less mathematical, more creative, maybe convey more financial engineering and problem solving.

Per Andy's request, I'm working on some ideas. I have the Photoshop skills, but I'm not a designer, so if we like an idea I can ask for help from designer friends who owe me favors.

Woody,
Thanks for lending help. I'm looking forward to seeing the sample. Just post it here. I do not think the old logo is unique and aristic enough to be presentable for our program. The new logo will be on various promotional items so it's better be good :D

here are some pics, maybe your friend can cook up something

I also agree that the old logo design by Phat Loc was great.

Good idea. Some details need some changes (fonts, transparent). I put the first logo on the forum page to see how it blends.
I believe Woody has some logo for us too.

We are bringing this topic back so that all of our new members can put their talents to good use and make some really cool logo, icon, banners

Here are some banners someone made for QN. They are really cool but we need to refine and make them more unique to our website. Thanks for your help.

Can anyone with Photoshop skill add a NYC skyline to the Quantnet header. Just the outline of the skyline in monotone

something like this?

although the words kind off block all the skyline...

Very good try. I include the psd file here so you can play with it in Photoshop.
Ideally, the outline will be in white, just like when you do it in chalk. And it should be behind or to the right of the letter...you can make it wider.

as soon as you change it, I'll try to put it online to see how it look ;)

quick question - do we have the rights for the skyline picture? would hate to see the efforts of our great photoshoppers go vain because of some silly copyright clause.

Andy

That picture is photo-shopped and it was available on Google. If it's copyrighted, it will come with a watermark stamp or some short. We are using it as inspiration so we should be fine.

Thanks for the heads up, Dmytro.

sure. at work we oftentimes use photos of different neighbourhoods for presentations. you'd be surprised how many of those get discarded simply because it has a logo of some company in the corner, or because it is unknown who made the picture i grabbed off of internet (i.e. there's a potential that that somebody will surface and say: "hey guys, your presentation looks great, but since you've used MY picture without my consent, cease and decease or pay up"). We ended up hiring photographers and building our own image banks.

i know i'm talking about extreme cases, and chances are nothing of the kind will actually happen. however, we study hedging for a reason, right ;?

with that, how about we commission our own middle gray expert Eric to produce a worthy image for the logo background? also, i think i saw some great pictures by members on quantnet too (can't find them though).

You can buy a photo there for $1-$5 and therefore legally use it:

Royalty free stock images | new york skyline | iStockphoto.com (http://www.istockphoto.com/file_search.php?action=file&text=new+york+skyline)

been trying that since last year. You may have better luck than I do ;)

Hi all

Here are a few images after tweaking with the existing images. Based on all your feedback I can churn out a few more..

If this pattern of - Image - QuantNet- Image is not looking good, please do let me know

Note that tagline is missing...That can always be added once we agree with the logo.

I can take pictures, but I'm not such a good designer. If you see any pics from my site to use, it's free.

I think we should use this image:

I think that it would be nice if we put some greek letters into "QuantNet".

For example
Qu\Delta ntNet

Qu\DeltantNet

Qu\Lambda ntNet
