Hi Everyone,
Feb 1 turned out to be very special for me. Well Jan 1 would have been an ideal day for the events but better late than never. It started late in the night ...10PM India Standard time to be precise.Prof Dan called me and told me that I was admitted to Baruch's MFE(Fall 2008). There was only one word to describe the feeling -"ecstasy".
It took me a day or two to come to grip with what has happened.
Will be bugging you all a lot more with all my queries now and looking forward to meeting you all.

I don't think this is true. You can apply up to the deadline without bias.

It's 100% false.
That somebody tried to eliminate a competing applicant. I can't blame them. One less competitor, more hope for them.
I can also tell you that only very few have been admitted to Baruch thus far. Very few as in you can count on your ...
The bulk of the competition comes at the end of the deadline April 30. That's when things get very interesting.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
I think I am too late to apply MFE this year, for I can not find the application link there.
Anyway,CONGRATULATIONS for you all and wish I can see you all next summer.
What do you mean you are too late ? The deadline is APRIL 30. There are almost 3 more months to go. I applied at the end of March 06 and there was plenty of time left.
The application link is very hard to see. We need to tell the people responsible for that website.

Hi,
This is Praveen from India. I also got into Baruch. I had a second interview with Prof. Dan last week and he congratulated me on becoming part of Baruch Family.
I was touched by his "Looking forward to be your instructor". However, Iam equally excited to meet each and every Baruch alumni who will share their invaluable inexperience with me and make this journey smooth and enjoyable.
Looking forward to having a good/challenging time.
Thanks
Praveen

Niceee. Big congrats to you. And welcome to Baruch family.
You may be lucky but you have to be very good to get in at Baruch. If I apply again, I'm not sure if I can compete with you guys grade-wise, experience-wise. You can say I was lucky then :)
So Dan will be teaching next year ? You are lucky. I miss him already ;)
I will be Baruch MFE alum Class of 2008 by the time you got here and definitely look forward to seeing all the new students.
You can be sure about a good/challenging time ahead. The program will provide all the challenges you can handle. Woody will provide all the fun you want in the forms of his monthly parties
This reminds me that I gotta get Dan to organize a trip to Yankees home game for all the current/incoming students and alumni. It's about time !

Hi Kaylee,
Thank you for your wishes.Andy/Woody are completely right.I'll share a bit of an insider information with you. Prof Dan actually shared with me the number of students that had been admitted. And it's a small number(Not sure if I ca tell you the exact number here). So, I'll suggest you apply soon and wish you all the luck.

Andy,
Is Quantitative Methods and Modeling from Zicklin School of business the same thing as Financial Engineering from Weissman School of Arts and Sciences?
This is a little bit confusing.
Nahed

No it is not the same, different masters .

What is the difference between them?
I think the Master QMM is geared more for a career in operations research, within a wider business context. MFE is trained to target strictly a career in finance.

If you do a search first, you will see that there is a thread that discusses the same question

Congratulations to all....
All those who have got admits, i request them to kindly post their profiles here so that other aspirants like me can gain a lot of understanding on the kind of profiles Baruch is looking out for.
Once again i wish the best of luck to all those who have conquered this uphill task.

The profiles will be posted eventually. I think there are threads already in the forum with a mini-bio of each of the current students. If you do a search you will find them.

I don't think it is feasible for me to attend refreshers as I am international student. But i would love to know from you guys as to what would be covered in these courses. Atleast I can brush up undergrad math and C++. I cannot start this until June as I am preparing for CFA L2.
Any suggestions appreciated
Thanks

Andy and other seniors
I got the following email fromInternational Student Service Center.
In order to process your SEVIS I-20, we need the followingsupportive documentation:
•Original bank statements translated into English showing a minimum of $29,881.00, not older than 3 months and in U.S. dollar equivalent. An Affidavit of support.
•Proof of income from all contributing parties.
•Copy of your valid passport (identification page).
FAQ in website cites that entire amount to be shown to get I20 is 57,800$. Which one is
the correct number? According to the email, I can show 30000$ and still could get I20. But i dont want to take any risk of going through this painful process twice. What do you suggest me to do?
Thank you very much

show $57,800 and you will be ok. Do a search on Quantnet. There are plenty of comments regarding this topic.

Hi ,
This is what I did. I showed liquid assets (i.e cash funds) of around 60KUSD. In addition to this ,I sent an affidavit of support from my parents and also my father's annual income on a letter head.

Thanks Alain and Sachin
I emailed Student service centre and they said the amount 29881$ (which is 1 year expenses) is just fine to get I-20. But during visa interview, I guess we need to show 60$ to avoid problems associated with VISA.
