View Full Version : Another MFE Applicant
Hi everybody,
I'm a recent graduate of the University of Arizona with bachelor's degrees in Physics and Mathematics. After 2.5 years of working at a national laboratory, I've discovered that I'm really more passionate about mathematical finance than I am about pure math or pure physics. Hopefully I'll be able to get into Baruch in 2008, but even if I don't make the cut, I'm happy to have found this forum which seems to be full of many knowledgeable people.

Hi Josh,
Welcome to Quantnet.org
What attracts you to Baruch MFE ?
Hi Andy, thanks for the welcome. A lot of things attracted me to Baruch. A few of the more important considerations were:
1)The curriculum seems to strike the right balance between mathematics and financial applications. The latter is very important to me because I have no professional or academic experience in finance.
2) There seems to be a strong emphasis on computational techniques, which is something I have always loved and one of my strongest areas.
3) The tuition is great; I can't afford NYU, etc.
4) Baruch has an excellent track record of placing its students in the financial industry after graduation.
5) Perhaps most importantly, I just like the "feel" of the academic community at Baruch.
I had the exact same as your 1-4 when I applied to Baruch last year. As for 5) there didn't exists any community back then. Baruch MFE is much more attractive and competitive this year than when I applied.
Good luck with the application.
Just a followup post. I made it in! :)
Fascinating news. Congrats, Joshua
If you are in NYC, I'll invite you to Woody's party tonight. Time to drink up ;)
