Hi all,

I am very glad to join this community. I am currently working as a system engineer here in one of the software house. Am planning to switch into a full time course on MSc in financial mathematic and statistic in one of the local uni here in HK. I hope I can be given help on how to prepare for this course next year.

I believe HKUST offers MS program of Mathmatics in Finance.
May be you can tell us your education background(any maths, programming or finance
courses) and folks in this community can offer you their adivce.

John, please ring HKUST and discuss your issues with Prof. Kwok. I know the program is very quanty and focus strongly on probability and statistics according to one of my friends who did maths there.

The program is tough if you have not done mathematic methods before. On the other hand, you can do some single subjects via HKU which are relatively cheap before going forward to any FinMath program. I think they offer part-time from 2008 onward. You should also check on CUHK. They do have a good program but Prof. Kwok is the man in your areas. Secondly the tuition fee is low. Cost effective unless you want to go overseas. Baruch is a greay choice. Good luck.

Work experience
March 2001 – 2004

Programmer Language tool: C #, Java, Cobol, SQL


Projects:

1. To interface with its SQL database with Cobol’s ISAM Database using COBOL plus Embedded SQL Statement and C library. To automate Accounting voucher generation that handles with all kinds of daily business nature’s transaction.


2. Developed Client Interface using Java to be able to communicate with its application that has been developed using COBOL


3. Developed OLEDB using C# to be able to communicate with ISAM Database


4. Job Costing System using Cobol


5. Job Costing System and Trading System using Cobol.


6. Developed some modules of the ERP system using C#


7. Report designer using C#



January 2005- Now

System Engineer Duties:


1. To perform business consultation on all kinds of trading nature, Inventory control, Warehousing, Production, Material Control and Scheduling.


2. To design out-going report format for clients.


3. To monitor Client’s physical server performance and provide service for tuning up server’s performance in order software can be best utilized.


4. To perform system study and specification requisition.


5. To debug reporting programs
