View Full Version : Premier of "Da Vinci Code" and Chinatown afterward
Hi guys,
We had a very positive feedback after our last night out. So we are planning another outing, this time features some combination of a movie, some good food in Chinatown, some drink. Depends on the responds, we will decide on the time, location and activities.
Tentatively, we are planning to go see "The Da Vinci Code" at 7'45pm this Friday. Each person will buy his/her own ticket online at this link (https://www.fandango.com/TicketBoxOffice.aspx?row_count=1491755950&mid=88984&tid=AAJNK). The ticket would cost $12.25.
Plot Synopsis:

While in Paris on business, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) receives an urgent late-night phone call: the elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum. Near the body, police have found a baffling cipher. While working to solve the enigmatic riddle, Langdon is stunned to discover it leads to a trail of clues hidden in the works of Da Vinci—clues visible for all to see—yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.
Langdon joins forces with a gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, and learns the late curator was involved in the Priory of Sion—an actual secret society whose members included Sir Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci, among others.
In a breathless race through Paris, London, and beyond, Langdon and Neveu match wits with a faceless powerbroker who seems to anticipate their every move. Unless Langdon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine puzzle in time, the Priory's ancient secret—and an explosive historical truth—will be lost forever.
The show is 2h30 minutes long. The movie theater is
Regal Union Square Stadium 14
850 Broadway
New York, NY 10003
This is within 20 minutes walking to Chinatown but we could take the train to save some time.
The restaurant we will be eating in Chinatown is the famous NY Noodle Town restaurant. They open 24/7 with great food and the price is unbelievably cheap. The average price of dishes is around $4-6. They are famous for their noodle and congee. \:D/
One of the review of the restaurant is here (http://www.newyorkmetro.com/listings/restaurant/ny_noodle_town/)
After the food, you can try one of Chinatown's famous bubble green tea.
So if you plan to have a great time with great friends on Friday night, please join us. We are still deciding if Sat afternoon is a better choice for most people because
we likely will go into the night on Friday.
Please vote and have comment.

I'm in. Just bought my ticket. We should probably meet around 7:30 at the movie theater on Friday, though we can meet earlier somewhere else. Any suggestions?
Mike,Yan
Thanks for coming. I was worried sick about you guys since I haven't got the responds fast enough :D
Frank said he is busy with finals this week and he's sorry he can't make it. He sends his regards to everyone :-). He will be able to join us after the 24th this month. Other members note that if the events fall into a weeknight, they will join too. That's the plan for next week.
Since this is the premier night and the Union Square is a huge hub for nearby NYU students, we will have a huge crowd, I suggest we get there early at or by 7pm, pickup the tickets and meet at Union Square park's stoops where the students gather.
We will need to send someone in to reserve the seat if need be :D
if you take the subway, you can take 4.5.6, L,N,R,W,Q trains to Union Square. If anyone needs # to contact us, please let me know.

actually it was me, I put up my date of birth. It'c cool that it generates my Chinese zodiac
lol not me, that was Andy. I don't hide my age, I'm 25 gonna be 26 soon. It's pretty cool actually (the zodiac sign)
It's pretty cool right? \:D/. No, I did not put the MONKEY under you Mike  . What i did was install a Chinese zodiac script on this forum so if you enter your DOB, it will calculate your sign in Chinese and put it under your name.
For those who does not want to put in the year, you can stil put in the day and month so people can get notification of your birthday but you won't have a chinese zodiac sign under your name.
Ok, an update on the movie night
We will meet around 7pm. If you can't make it early, don't worry, we will reserve a seat for you. The reason we want to be there early is because we want to reserve a block of seat for all of us and we have to pick up the tickets.
Remember to bring your Credit card which you used to buy the tickets. Or print out the confirmation page to get the ticket.

Really great time. Andy, as always the pix came out great. It was really wonderful to be introduced to Chinatown in this way. Yan, Andy you are great guides. We should do these events all the time. Any ideas for next week? I'm trying to think of a good, inexpensive Russian place(bar/lounge/eatery). Let me know your thoughts ppl
Mike, I'm glad you enjoy it. I thought you were scared of Chinatown. There are absolutely no gangs whatsoever in Chinatown. They have already been priced out of the neighborhood.
I have an end-of-semester party next Thurs 25th in my Math Phd program at 34th and 5th that runs from 6'30pm to whatever. There are alcohol, food, music,etc....
I help with the funding for the party. You guys are welcome to visit and chit chat with those nerdy people. :D
Unfortunately, I have a surgery with my doctor on Thurs at 4pm. He told me to get home after the surgery and rest for the whole weekend. I can't even be allowed to look at the computer screen ](*,) I think it's just a piece of cake.
I think you guys should come, have a few drinks with the people in the Math dept there. There are several Math prof at Baruch that teaches there.
Just bring your ID, go to the 4th floor, Math dept and have fun guys. Bring your friends, neighbors, dog walkers, mailman...whoever.
Enjoy before the real study begins next month.

Jimmy,
We went to Tea & Tea. Here is the address
Tea & Tea
51 Mott St.
Cross Street: Bayard and Pell Sts.
Phone:: 212-766-9889
Website:
Price Range: $2.45 - $3.85

Here is a link (http://www.explorechinatown.com/Gui/Content.aspx?Page=Locate&Type=R&Specialty=T) to the list of all bubble tea houses in Chinatown with info and review.
I tried some of those and always came back to Tea and Tea. I mostly stick to green bubble tea with tapioca. I tried some tea houses on Main St, Flushing a couple of years ago but I think they are no where comparable to Tea and Tea. I heard that their quality is much better now in Flushing, Queens.
When you're done with finals, maybe we can get together sometime during the summer.
Any ideas for next week? I'm trying to think of a good, inexpensive Russian place(bar/lounge/eatery). Let me know your thoughts ppl
Not this week, but maybe next week when you guys meet lot more new people for the C++ course? We can go out Fri night after the first week of June. Then i'm sure we have lot to talk about c++. Somewhere in Queens, Brooklyn?
Yan seems to know more about Flushing. I know cheap eats in Chinatown but not much in Queens.
